Fostering Equality and Respect: Redeemer’s University’s Anti-Harassment Commitment
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Human Rights at Redeemer’s University
Redeemer’s University affirms its deep commitment to promoting a campus environment rooted in dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunity. In alignment with both national values and global sustainability principles of Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, the university has established clear structures and processes to support diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights across all aspects of university life.
At the center of this commitment is the Human Resources Department, which serves as the designated office responsible for advancing diversity and equality goals within the institution. This department has been entrusted by university leadership to coordinate policies, programs, and training initiatives that promote a respectful, inclusive, and non-discriminatory workplace and academic environment.
To fulfill this mandate, the Human Resources Department collaborates closely with various internal committees and specialized bodies across the university. These include representatives from different faculties, student affairs, administrative units, and other relevant departments. Before any diversity-related policy or training program is finalized or implemented, it is reviewed through a consultation process that ensures alignment with the university’s values and community needs.
Key responsibilities of the university’s diversity and inclusion framework include:
- Advising university leadership on diversity, equity, and human rights matters
- Reviewing and recommending institutional policies that ensure equal opportunity in hiring, admissions, and academic support
- Organizing training programs and workshops focused on workplace inclusion, cultural competence, gender equity, and anti-discrimination
- Investigating and responding to reports of discrimination in a confidential, fair, and timely manner
- Promoting inclusive practices in recruitment and student engagement to reflect the diversity of Nigerian society and global academia
The university’s leadership provides strong support for maintaining a fair and inclusive campus. Through regular training, policy development, and active staff engagement, Redeemer’s University aims to create a learning and working environment where all individuals are respected, empowered, and supported. This includes individuals regardless of gender, ethnic background, physical ability, religion, or personal orientation.
Looking ahead, the Human Resources Department, in cooperation with its advisory committees, will continue to serve as the Diversity and Equality Office of Redeemer’s University. The department ensures that the institution remains both compliant with legal standards and committed to fostering a values-driven, inclusive academic culture.
