The article investigates the relationship between trade openness, human capital, and poverty alleviation in West Africa. It reveals that while trade openness alone did not significantly reduce poverty, its impact became more pronounced when coupled with human capital development, particularly tertiary education. The study emphasizes that investment in education and skills is crucial for reaping the benefits of trade liberalization and promoting sustainable economic growth. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG 8), which aims to promote sustained, inclusive economic growth and decent work for all.
